Week 4 - Marketing Strategy

When a company develops a marketing strategy they need to ask three main questions about their potential customers. They need to ask what the customer needs, when and where they need it, and how they can help. Answering these questions can really help a company develop a successful marketing strategy. They also need to create buyer personas which are sort of like a representation of what their customers are like personally, what goals they have, and the challenges they have. If a company really understands the customers they have and where they are coming from, then creating a marketing strategy to target them becomes much easier. If you know how your potential customers think, then you can really be successful marketing towards them. It shows that a company cares and wants to provide exactly what a customer will need. Although, a buyer persona really needs to be thorough in order to be successful.

Once a buyer persona is created and a company develops a marketing strategy, they can start creating ads and content targeting the customers they think will buy their product or service. This is called inbound marketing and it’s the process of creating content that is relevant to an audience. For example, a company for toys might advertise on Nickelodeon and show other kids playing with that toy and having fun. The audience most probably is children and the toy is something that is hot for the time. This might force the kid to ask their parents for the toy. This is a very simplistic example but a company is more successful when it targets their specific customer instead of a one size fits all approach.

I found this article on LinkedIn that talks about how marketers need a strategy just like any other part of a company. The ads and content a company creates is essential to a company’s success but none of that matters without the right marketing strategy and vision. Marketing teams are constantly busy and there is more required of them these days. Since marketing teams have so much work and live in chaos, the article says that makes them super reactive. The reactive approach can hinder marketers and shift their focus off the goals they are trying to achieve. The strategy and goals should always come first and the article discusses a few ways to allow marketers to become more successful. The article says that marketers should create goals and think of ways to reach those goals and stick to them. Next, the article says to research the target market and understand your customers. This is similar to creating buyer personas. The article then says that once marketers understand the market, they can create content that resonates and shows the customer why their product or service is beneficial. The content also needs to be distributed through the right channels. Lastly, the article says that marketers should prioritize work that matters and stop reacting. They should focus on their goals and only explore new ideas if they align with the marketing strategy. The marketing strategy is the key to a company’s success more than anything else.
